Creative Development

Primary School

Children can choose to study art, music, drama, or design, technology, and engineering in primary school, starting off their creative journey from the age of 5 to the age of 11. Primary school forms the foundation of creative skills, building imagination, artistic abilities, and self-expression.

Lower Secondary School

In lower secondary school, students can choose from the same selection of creative subjects as in primary school. In KS3, children build upon the artistic foundation formed in primary school, continuing to develop their creative skills and preparing them for their ever important IGCSE years.

Upper Secondary School

In upper secondary school, students have the choice to select from 3 creative subjects: fine art, photography, and graphic communications. These subjects are available for the Edexcel exam board, following the international GCSE curriculum. This is where students really hone their skills, finding their own creative style and outlook.

Why choose a creative subject?

Choosing a creative subject has many benefits for students, including providing an outlet for self-expression and emotional response, as well as building solid artistic skills which can be applied across a wide variety of contexts. Whether students choose fine art, photography, or graphic communications, they will build creative skills that will last a lifetime and can be applied across multiple career pathways for their futures.

Creative subjects also help build imagination, problem-solving, and creative thinking, which are all key skills for their futures.

Exploring Creativity with IGCSEs

Our online school offers one of the widest creative selections at an IGCSE level, helping students explore their artistic passions, whether in photography, art, or graphics. Students can even study all three if they would like! Below are some more in-depth insights into our creative subjects.

Fine Art

Fine Art enables students to explore the creative world of painting, sketching, sculpting, drawing, collaging, and more as they express creativity through a wide range of media. Students will develop their skills in a range of artistic areas, helping them to express themselves through artwork, research different artists and their techniques, and develop their own style.

Photography

Photography helps students explore composition, lens effects, lighting, setting, photography mode, and professional photography work, enabling them to develop their photography skills as they experiment with different photography types, such as landscapes and portraits. Pupils will develop their own photography style as they take inspiration from renowned photographers.

Graphic Communications

Graphic communications is our newest creative subject, available from September 2026. Through this subject, students will explore the world of anime and manga as they learn key graphics skills and apply them in instances of character design, illustration, panel composition, digital design, and hand-drawn components.
