Business Studies Development Pathways

Our online school has developed Business Studies Development Pathways to help guide students throughout their studies from secondary school to sixth form. Business can be studied from Year 7 to A-Level, providing students with the opportunity to build their understanding and knowledge across the year groups.

Business studies in years 7 and 8 covers a selection of foundational topics, providing a solid base and understanding for further learning. Whilst it is not necessary to study business in these years, it helps prepare students for their IGCSEs and helps pupils feel more confident in their knowledge. Students can also choose whether to study the year 9 business course or to jump straight from year 8 into an accelerated IGCSE course. We offer flexibility over the level at which students want to start.

After completing the business studies course in earlier years through our development pathway, students then move on to IGCSEs, with Business, Accounting, and Economics being accelerated courses, meaning they only take 1 year to complete. Commerce is, however, a regular 2-year IGCSE course. Commerce combines elements from all three subjects, meaning it can be used as a stepping stone to study Business, Accounting, or Economics as A-Levels.

Our IGCSE and A-Level courses are all designed to be started without prior knowledge; our development pathway is just there as a recommendation, so pupils can get the best out of their learning.
